Having Fun in College – Is it Possible?

The short answer – yes. It is totally possible. The point of college is to earn a degree, decide what you want to do for a career, and study and work hard to get there. However, that isn’t all there is to it. Sure, it may seem like that during finals week and some other weeks throughout the semester that your work load is high, however you can do so much more in college than just studying 24/7. Of course, this also comes with a warning – don’t make college more about having fun than it is about studying. Your degree, classes, and studying should always come first, just don’t forget to make time for yourself.

There are plenty of things you can get involved in both on campus and off campus to enjoy yourself and have fun. First of all, you can join some clubs, organizations, and sports that support your hobbies and also will help you make new friends. Plus, it will get you out of your dorm room for a bit so you’ll feel more like a part of your college and community than you may otherwise.

Explore the area around your college. Whether you’re an hour, a few states, or a whole other country away from home, explore your area. Even if you’re an hour away from home, you’ll find that there’s so much out there that you didn’t know about, whether it is a coffee shop or independent bookstore. Go to parks to study for a change – sure, you’ll be doing classwork, but you’ll be doing it in a new and relaxing environment that will allow you to have fun while you’re doing this necessary thing.

Look up events in the area of your college. Whether it is a concert, a festival, or a comic convention, if you have time for these activities in your schedule, you should still do these things you enjoy. Just because you’re in college, that doesn’t mean you can’t!

Have a free weekend with no homework? If you’re closer to home, then spend the weekend visiting family and friends. Or you can gather up some of your new friends and go on a mini-vacation somewhere nearby college yet far enough to make it feel like an actual get-away.

With how busy your college schedule may be, you may need to make time for these fun activities that have nothing to do with your college courses. However, it is worth it and it will make the time that you are studying and working on homework so much better because you know you just had a break from it and that you have another break from it coming up. It’s important to take these breaks to recharge so you don’t get burned out on your college classes and homework.

Efficient Ways to Pack for the Holidays

By the time the holiday break rolls around, you will have already been living in your dorm room as if it were your new home. Your clothes will have found their perfect place and you can barely begin to imagine packing, unpacking, and repacking all of your things for the holiday pilgrimage back to mom and dad’s. If the thought of this makes you cringe and all you can think about are overflowing duffel bags with none of the right things (as you will soon find out), we suggest you start thinking about your packing strategy differently than before. Modernize is here to show you how packing can be done efficiently and sometimes even feel easy if you know all the best hacks. It just takes a little bit of effort to get it all right and you’ll be a practiced and savvy packer for life.

Every expert packer’s dream is to be so swift that their clothes never even need to leave the hangers when they travel. Sure, you can try to squish a bunch of clothing into your suitcase in this way, but chances are things will get wrinkled and become too bulky to fit. Even transporting hangers separately becomes problematic. The awkward shape and stiffness prevents them from fitting nicely into any corner of your bag—not to mention they could catch and tear a hole in that ugly Christmas sweater you bought for the ugly Christmas sweater party. Such a shame. DormCo wants to protect your ugly Christmas sweaters...and all the rest of your clothes with a fold-up bag that lets you layer pre-hung clothing in a pile with a tie to secure your hangers don’t slip out. It is the easiest and most ingenious way to eliminate the hassle of packing and unpacking clothes no matter how long you stay.

Sure, there’s plenty of opportunities to do laundry when you are away at school, but there’s just something about the way that Mom does it that just makes your clothes the softest and the best smelling they’ve ever been—or this is what you’ll tell her when you walk in the door with twenty pounds of dirty laundry. Or you can admit that you’ve shrunken one too many T-shirts and turned all your socks pink but it’s okay, you were able to fit everything in a sturdy canvas tote with a drawstring that survived two bus rides and a quick drive home, so isn’t she glad that worked so well? Whatever the situation, you’ll appreciate the Oxford Laundry Duffel Bag’s chic look and helpful shoulder strap that makes bringing laundry home so easy you just might want to do it more often…

For everything else that you need to carry, DormCo.com’s FL-J Suitcase Trunk is spacious enough to hold any school books (just so you can stay sharp over the holidays, right?), laptops, or other valuable items that you don’t feel comfortable carrying in a backpack or purse. It’s important to remember that you should always find secure and safe ways to stash your belongings, especially if you are traveling alone. The FL-J Suitcase has locks on the outside and straps on the inside to keep your stuff from shifting around while you’re moving about. It’s also small and lightweight with 4 base wheels for easy transportation and is regulation carry-on size for planes.
